FAVELA INFOCUS explores the living environment of youngsters in the ages between 14 and 18 years in the favela Jardim Aracati, São Paulo – Brazil. The young participants took all the photos themselves with self-made pinhole cameras -using mainly cookie cans- and developed the photos in a makeshift dark room. Their final result gives a glimpse into the way they see themselves and their surroundings. What did they choose to photograph and why? Themes like friendship, family, togetherness, proudness and self-worthiness prevailed.
Their photo-stories have been exhibited in São Paulo and the Netherlands. During the final exhibition in São Paulo they gave several presentations to the public about the pinhole photography method they used to create their art work.
